There are many things that contribute to your family’s health and wellness — diet, exercise, genetic makeup, socioeconomic conditions, etcetera. But one commonly overlooked factor that can also impact your family’s health is what kitchen appliances your household has. The kitchen appliances you have dictate what type of meals you and your family can share. Here are five kitchen appliances that you should consider investing in if you want to improve your family’s health.

Water Filtration System

Tap water just has too many contaminants, including pesticides and hard minerals, that are not good for your family’s health. A water filtration system removes these contaminants and leaves you with crisp, soft water. A common type of water filtration system is a reverse osmosis system, which uses a high-pressure pump to separate water from its impurities. Reverse osmosis systems can be further subdivided into a tank RO vs tankless RO system, each of which has its own pros and cons. If you have the budget for it, a tankless RO system is the way to go. It’s more compact and faster at processing water.

Coffee Maker

Coffee isn’t just an addictive beverage that you drink multiple cups of every day. Coffee is a rich source of antioxidants and, according to studies, can lower your risk of heart diseases and cancer. It’s also a good drink to combat depression and can boost your mood, energy levels, and ability to focus. Having a coffee maker at home allows you to enjoy these benefits without having to buy it for $5 a cup at your nearby cafe. And for the discerning coffee aficionado, having a coffee maker means you get better control over the exact flavor, temperature, and texture of your favorite drink. Today’s coffee makers come in different pot sizes, brewing temperature ranges, carafes, and grind modes.

Blender

If you ever want to do a juice cleanse or simply want to whip up fresh fruit smoothies for your family, you’ll want a blender at home. Blenders are versatile and can do more than just juices; you can also make healthier sauces and soups with it. By making your sauces and soups at home, you can control the amount of salt, sugar, and oil that goes into it, making it a healthier alternative for family meals. Blenders are also safer compared to industrial-grade food processors that have sharper blades and a faster motor. That being said, if you want something that can quickly process large batches of solid food, such as big-stalked vegetables, you may want to consider a food processor that has more power and blade.

Electric Grill

There are different types of grills to choose from i.e. clamshell grill, panini grill, and electric griddle. Meats and veggies that are cooked on an electric grill actually taste more flavorful and can be relatively healthier compared to their pan-fried counterparts. Grilled foods tend to have little to no batter coating or residual grease. Grilling also releases a higher amount of calories from food, which makes it a good method of cooking for families looking to lose weight. Compared to its gas- or charcoal-powered cousins, electric grills are easier and safer to use, can reach higher temperatures faster, and has countertop mounting options, which make them a great choice for apartment or condominium living.

Pressure Cooker

Once dominated by slow cookers, the fast and convenient one-stop meal pot niche is being taken over by pressure cookers. While slow cookers do provide a convenient way of preparing healthy meals in advance, the cooking time required is still relatively long. Pressure cookers, on the other hand, speed up cooking times significantly while also retaining most of the nutritional value of the food inside. Today’s pressure cookers can cook a fully frozen whole chicken in 30 minutes or make batches of rich gelatin in under two hours, a task that previously took more than 24 hours to do.

Final Thoughts

Having access to these kitchen appliances isn’t enough to take advantage of their benefits. You’ll still have to put in the time and effort to prepare meals for your family. Fortunately, today’s fleet of kitchen appliances are designed to cut processing times in half and requires little manual operation, leaving you with more time and energy to spend with your family.
